ATEX Services
ATEX Services
We help manufacturers, system integrators and end users understand their obligations under the ATEX Directives, identify compliance gaps and implement a practical, standards-based route to conformity.
Our approach combines process safety expertise, hazardous area engineering and regulatory compliance support to reduce risk and simplify what can often be a complex certification process. Whether modifying existing plant, introducing equipment into hazardous areas or developing a complete process assembly, we provide the technical guidance and documentation required to support safe operation and regulatory compliance.
What We Do
Potentially explosive atmospheres introduce significant safety, operational and compliance challenges. Effective risk management requires a detailed understanding of hazardous substances, process conditions, ignition sources, equipment design and operational controls.
Alpha Automation supports clients throughout the full project lifecycle, from hazardous area classification and ignition hazard assessment through to technical documentation, conformity assessment and CE marking support to the ATEX Directives. We evaluate equipment suitability, identify compliance obligations, assess existing safeguards and develop practical risk reduction measures aligned with ATEX requirements and industry best practice.
Where required, we support the preparation of technical documentation, engage with notified bodies and assist clients in demonstrating compliance with both the ATEX Equipment Directive and ATEX Workplace Directive. Our objective is to provide a clear, auditable path to compliance while ensuring personnel safety, operational reliability and project success.

Hazardous Area Classification
A detailed assessment of the process, substances and operating conditions used to identify where explosive atmospheres may occur and determine the appropriate hazardous area zoning. This forms the foundation for equipment selection, protection concepts and compliance activities.
Explosion Protection Document (EPD)
Preparation or review of the Explosion Protection Document in accordance with ATEX workplace requirements. The document records hazardous areas, identified risks, control measures and the basis of safety adopted to prevent explosions and protect personnel.
Ignition Hazard Assessment
A structured assessment identifying potential ignition sources associated with equipment, machinery and process assemblies operating within hazardous areas. The assessment evaluates ignition risks and defines the measures required to eliminate or reduce the likelihood of ignition and support ATEX compliance.
ATEX Compliance Action List
A structured action register identifying compliance gaps, recommendations and corrective actions arising from the assessment process. This enables clients to effectively manage and track all activities required to achieve compliance.
Technical File & Notified Body Support
Support in the development and review of Technical Construction Files, supporting calculations, compliance evidence and conformity assessment documentation. Assistance can also be provided when engaging with notified bodies and determining the applicable certification route.
ATEX Conformity Assessment & CE Marking Support
Practical support throughout the ATEX conformity assessment process, including compliance reviews, technical documentation preparation and guidance on CE marking requirements. We assist manufacturers and end users in demonstrating conformity and preparing the documentation required to support the final Declaration of Conformity.
